Looking back at my digital camera use
Last week, for the first time this year, I copied over some photos from my X100T to my iMac. Since it’s already May, it made me realize how little I’m using my once beloved camera nowadays. Time for some introspection. What did my digital camera usage look like over the years?
Over the years I collected my photos on a per event basis. Each folder in my “Photos” folder represents an event, like a party night or a 3 week holiday. In my high school days I captured a lot of parties with my IXUS v2: 2 (two) megapixels and an astonishing 400 (four hundred) ISO upper bound. Nostalgia.
Around the time we bought a house and expected our first child, new gear was bought and used extensively in the years following. I learned a lot about photography those years and I would take my cameras out on all sorts of occasions. But now, more than 10 years after I bought the X100T, I’ve used it on just three moments this year so far.
The reason is evident. It’s all in the famous quote: “the best camera you have is the one with you”. My kind of old iPhone 12 mini from 2021 shoots decent images. It’s simply good enough – and so convenient – that it apparently makes me forget about the beautiful piece of art the X100T still is.
